Nomination of candidates for new Board members

Catherine C. Cole Catherine C. Cole is the Director of Planning, Inuit Heritage Trust, working on the Nunavut Heritage Centre in Iqaluit, and Principal Consultant, Catherine C. Cole and Associates. She has written municipal cultural plans, institutional strategic plans and policies, and program reviews, and been the project manager/curator for several large, multidisciplinary arts and heritage projects. She worked on the preservation of Indigenous heritage in the Solomon Islands from 1991-1993. Prior to that she was a social/labour history curator with Alberta Culture and worked in interpretation for Parks Canada and historic sites in Ontario. An ICOM member since 1980, Catherine has been a board member (2010-2013) and Vice-Chair of ICOM CAMOC (Collections and Activities of Museums of Cities, 2016-2022) and a member of ICOM’s Strategic Allocations Review Committee (SAREC, 2016-2020). September 20, 2021 Dear ICOM Canada Members, This is to confirm that ICOM Canada’s Annual General Meeting is scheduled for September 29, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. EDT (Eastern Daylight Time). The meeting will take place via the Zoom virtual meeting platform. In order to conduct a successful and effective virtual AGM, ICOM Canada is inviting all current members in good standing to attend the AGM. These include advancing the primary aims and objectives of ICOM, increasing public awareness of Canadian museums and cultural heritage institutions within Canada and to the international museum and cultural heritage community, and making ICOM Canada more vital in the professional life of its members. ICOM Museum Definition Consultation 2: Keywords and Concepts

ICOM Canada continues to contribute to and represent the Canadian interests in the ICOM Museum Definition review. As part of the ongoing international consultation process, ICOM Canada is presenting a list of key words and concepts to ICOM Define. Please submit any substantive commentary below by Friday, March 19. ICOM Canada undertook a member consultation about this definition prior to the 2019 ICOM General Conference in Kyoto. The definition, plus key words and concepts presented below will be submitted to ICOM Define in April 2021.   Definition ICOM definition (2007): A museum is a non-profit, permanent institution in the service of society and its development, open to the public, which acquires, conserves, researches, communicates and exhibits the tangible and intangible heritage of humanity and its environment for the purposes of education, study and enjoyment. ICOM: Towards a new Museum Definition and a revision of the Code of Ethics Date: March 5, 2021 from 13.30 - 14.30 EDT Moderator: Marie Lalonde, ICOM-Canada President, Member of the MDPP2 (Standing Committee for the Museum definition, Prospect and Potentials).  Speakers: Alberto Garlandini, ICOM President.         Bruno Brulon Soares, ICOFOM (International Committee for Museology of ICOM) President; co-chair of the MDPP2. Presentation Description: On 7 September 2019 in Kyoto, ICOM decided that the vote on the new museum definition should be postponed in order to continue with the discussion furthermore. Before the Kyoto conference, ICOM-Canada had already accomplished comprehensive discussions and had proposed to members during the April 2019 AGA a new museum definition which was then adopted, subject to comments made after, comments which were incorporated.
