The Canadian Coalition for Cultural Heritage in Ukraine
Since the invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces on February 24th, 2022, cultural heritage – monuments, sites, archives, objects, sacred spaces, and collected traditions – has been under threat, as collateral damage and resulting from deliberate targeting. In March 2022, eight of Canada’s leading heritage organizations came together to form the Canadian Coalition for Cultural Heritage in Ukraine. Culture Under Fire: Protecting Ukrainian Heritage
April 28, 2022 | 1PM - 2:30PM EDT Panel discussion and live Q&A Join our virtual event and participate in a live discussion about the evolving crisis in Ukraine following the Russian invasion, the violations of human rights and continuous destruction of cultural heritage. How is the international community joining efforts with Ukrainians to help protect sites, monuments and heritage collections? What can we all do in times of conflict to uphold our individual and collective rights? The interactive program will be held online via Zoom. It will include a Q&A session with those in attendance. ICOM Canada is proud to present this program in partnership with the Canadian Museum of Human Rights, ICOMOS Canada and the Ukrainian Museum of Canada. President’s Update March 2022 Dear Colleagues and Members of ICOM Canada, Much has happened over the past 3 months. In this newsletter I am reporting on the many things that ICOM Canada has completed and will undertake over the coming months. The most important thing for our members is the news that our next AGM will take place in June 2022. We will be sending out more information on social media and via email about the date and time of this important meeting shortly. ICOM Canada’s Activities Four Strategic Planning workshops ICOM Canada conducted workshops around the Family Day weekend in February with both members and non-members in English and French to inform ICOM Canada’s strategic plan and build on a member survey. ICOM Canada strongly condemns the war against Ukraine, the loss of life, the refugee crisis, and the hardships imposed on the Ukrainian people. ICOM Canada also condemns the destruction and endangerment of cultural heritage and museums in Ukraine. ICOM Canada stands in solidarity with Ukraine in defence of its sovereignty and independence.
