Repatriation in Three Acts: Webinar with Patricia Allan, Curator of World Cultures at Glasgow Museums

Wednesday, September 28th, 3pm - 4pm Repatriation in Three Acts: Patricia Allan, Curator of World Cultures at Glasgow Museums talks about her experiences in the repatriation of artifacts from Nigeria (Benin), India, South Dakota (Cheyenne River and Pine Ridge Nations), Saskatchewan (Lakota) and Scotland. Patricia Allan has been Curator of World Cultures since 2002. Her responsibilities cover non-European art and history, and include Africa, Oceania (Pacific regions), the Americas, the Caribbean, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. Patricia graduated with an Honours degree in Biology from the University of Aberdeen, a Postgraduate Master’s degree in Archaeology and Anthropology and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from The University of Sheffield. She has worked on archaeological sites throughout the world as an ethnobotanist, principally on the Southern Coast of Ecuador where she was field director and environmentalist for a multidisciplinary research project and museum. Find out more about ICOM Canada's Administrator and Social Media/Web Coordinator, who help support ICOM Canada's work through its administration and web presence.   Sarah Khan - Administrator   Sarah was born in Toronto, and raised in Mississauga. She has recently graduated with honours, from the Special Event Management program (2021) at George Brown College. During her time in school she completed a virtual, international internship with Visual Studio (2021) in Singapore, specialising in events and marketing. Since graduating, she’s volunteered as an Event Coordinator for the Toronto Railway Museum, where she assisted with creating and executing the museum’s Online Lecture Series (2021-2022). She is currently working as the Salon and Event Coordinator for worldSALON (2019-2022), where she has collaborated on events with MomsTO and Build the Park, as well as launch events for the salon. The Canadian Coalition for Cultural Heritage in Ukraine

Since the invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces on February 24th, 2022, cultural heritage –  monuments, sites, archives, objects, sacred spaces, and collected traditions – has been under threat, as collateral damage and resulting from deliberate targeting. In March 2022, eight of Canada’s leading heritage organizations came together to form the Canadian Coalition for Cultural Heritage in Ukraine.
