Travel Bursary for participation in ICOM Dubai 2025 Now Open!

We are happy to announce the Travel Bursary for participation in ICOM Dubai 2025. As one of the 120 National Committees around the world and as a way to help emerging museum professionals in building network and lasting connections, ICOM Canada provides a Travel Bursary every three years to support the participation of an emerging museum professional (with fewer than 5 years of work experience, which includes student employment, such as internships) to the ICOM General Conference. 

ICOM Canada will provide up to CAD $2000 to cover costs related to conference registration, travel, accommodation, and local transportation, as well as a per diem allowance for meals. It is expected that applicants will seek additional funding through their employer or other sources (e.g. Canadian Museum Association, ICOM International Committees). The bursary will be awarded by an adjudication committee formed by the board of ICOM Canada. 

To be Eligible:  

  • The applicant must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident; 

  • An ICOM member in good standing;
  • An emerging 
museum professional with fewer than 5 years of work experience. 

  • Frequency 
Applicants may receive only one ICOM Canada Travel bursary. 

  • Application Procedures 
Applications may be submitted in English or in French. 

Applications should include: 

  • A brief personal contact information. 

  • A brief (maximum two‐page) curriculum vitae. 

  • A brief (maximum 250 words) statement of purpose. It should provide a brief overview of your museological interests and professional aspirations and what you hope to gain from participating the conference. 

  • A budget, including estimates for conference registration, return economy transportation, accommodation 
in the most economical residence, $50 per diem rate to cover meals over the duration of the conference/meeting. 

  • A letter of reference from a faculty supervisor or work supervisor.

The deadline for applications is MARCH 15, 2025.  

The successful applicant will be reimbursed for expenses upon submission of the following:*

  • Statement of expenses with appropriate receipts 

  • Two‐page conference report which will be posted on the ICOM‐Canada website 


*An early reimbursement of expenses, e.g. flight, can be considered upon provision of proof of additional funding.
